Tom has worked in the public dissemination of archaeology and history for nearly 20 years and has been with Red River Archaeology Group since 2022. After completing an undergraduate degree in Ancient and Modern History at the University of Oxford, Tom worked at the BBC as a researcher for historical documentaries. He returned to academia to take a MLitt in Medieval Archaeology at the University of Glasgow, before returning to complete a PhD in Viking trade networks. An author and editor, Tom has published ‘A Viking Market Kingdom in Ireland and Britain’ with Routledge and co-edited ‘The Viking Age in Scotland’ with Edinburgh University Press. An experienced social media professional who has previously worked at Antiquity, Tom also volunteers for the Govan Stones Museum, where he works as a guide and on its archaeological media outreach. He continues to dig on Viking archaeology projects in Britain and, in 2019, Ukraine.
